The steel frame of the main plant of China Huadian's Westport Thermal Power Project in Cambodia was officially lifted

BANGKOK, Dec. 19 (Xinhua Zhao Yipu) -- On the morning of Dec. 19, the steel frame of the main plant of China Huadian Westport Thermal Power Project in Sihanoukville, Cambodia, was officially lifted, marking the transfer of the first unit of the project from civil construction to the installation stage.

Wu Guoquan, Economic and Commercial Counselor of the Chinese Embassy in Cambodia, said that since the outbreak of the epidemic, Huadian's Westport Thermal Power Project has been able to achieve "zero infection" among all Chinese and Cambodian employees, while overcoming many difficulties caused by the epidemic in terms of personnel availability and equipment delivery, and successfully completing the project construction milestones, making an important contribution to the sustainable promotion of local economic development and employment.

The president of Cambodia National Electricity Corporation (CNEC), Kolotana, thanked the Chinese staff for their efforts and praised the project as a major event in the history of Cambodia's power development, which will play an important role in relieving the power supply tension in Cambodia and is an important witness of the friendship between Cambodia and China.

According to the introduction, China Huadian Cambodia West Port Project is located in Kampong Thom Bay, northeast of Sihanoukville, designed to build two 350,000 kW supercritical coal-fired units, supporting the construction of large-tonnage coal berths and large heavy-lift berths, with an expected annual power generation capacity of 5.2 billion kWh, and the first unit will be put into operation at the end of 2022. The project has overcome the adverse effects of epidemic, rainy season and high temperature since the start of construction, and the project is progressing in an orderly manner as planned, and has now received the final EIA approval from the Cambodian government.
